# Behind the door
## A quieter place for the next conversation

Most online conversations start in public: a timeline, a reply, a channel that keeps growing. Zroom starts with a different gesture. You open a door, create a room and decide who receives the invitation.

The pixel corridor is the interface. The room is the product.

### One invitation, one room

Create a room and choose 60, 360 or 1440 minutes of access: one, six or twenty-four hours. Zroom gives you a full invitation to share with the people you want inside. They enter with an alias and can begin exchanging messages.

There is no public feed for the conversation. The full invitation grants access to read and write, so it should be treated as a secret. It is not a public room address or a link to post on a timeline.

Aliases are intentionally simple. They are not verified identities. Someone who holds the invitation can choose an alias; a familiar name alone does not prove who is speaking.

### Encrypted before the relay

Zroom encrypts message content in the browser with AES-GCM before sending it to the relay. The room key travels in the invitation's URL fragment, the part after the `#`, rather than in the message API requests. The relay stores encrypted packets for room participants to retrieve.

This gives the product a specific boundary: it is a browser-encrypted conversation system. It does not make a participant invisible to the network or remove the hosting provider's ability to observe connection metadata.

The invitation also contains an access credential. Share the whole invitation only with intended participants. Anyone holding it can read and send messages in the room. If you expose an invitation, start a new room and share its new invitation privately.

### Temporary access, honest limits

The room timer limits access through the relay. When that period ends, the relay stops serving the room to participants. Expiry does not revoke information someone already received. It cannot remove a screenshot, a copied message or an invitation saved elsewhere. Deletion of expired server records is housekeeping, not a promise of instant physical erasure.

Zroom is experimental software, not an audited security service. It works best when its limits are understood and the people sharing a room handle their invitations carefully.

### Why a pixel door?

A door is a useful metaphor because it makes a boundary visible. Black keeps the surrounding interface quiet. Gold marks the entrance. Pixel typography and deliberate interactions turn the application into a place rather than another scrolling feed.

The visual identity draws on the broader privacy conversation, including the yellow-and-black associations of Zcash. Zroom is an independent project with no Zcash affiliation. Its rooms do not use Zcash's shielded-transaction protocol, and the product is not a financial service. A token pairing, if announced separately, would not change the encryption or privacy properties of the rooms.

### Step inside

Open the corridor. Create a room. Share the invitation with your people. Talk, then leave.

Not every conversation needs an audience.

**Zroom — Leave your name at the door.**
